I am the co-founder of the Safal Kiswahili Prize for African Literature, founded in 2014 with Mukoma wa Ngugi.

In ten years we have awarded over $130,000 USD to 40+ writers working in Kiswahili. The Prize is pan-African, open to writers all over Africa. My article in Publishing Perspectives describes how the Safal Kiswahili Prize went from idea to an ecosystem.

We work with Mkuki na Nyota publishers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to publish the winning manuscripts and have published more than 20, both poetry & prose!
